Why did I love this book?
I admit I’ve been in love with Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch for years. Still, in my opinion, his other series, starring Mickey Haller, fits Raymond Chandler’s quote: He’s the best man for his world and a good enough man for any world.
Mick handles himself with more panache (okay, cynicism) than Harry in the streets of Los Angeles and the courtrooms. These are some of the meanest in the country, and I’ve lived there. Sometimes, his tactics cut close to the edge of morality and make me a bit uncomfortable, but ultimately, he risks himself and his reputation for his clients, making him a good man in my book.
